Churchill Barriers 2

Churchill Barriers 2

The Churchill Barriers are defensive structures built during World War 2 which protected Scapa Flow, one of the UK’s most important naval bases. Built largely by Italian Prisoners of War, these beautiful barriers now provide a vital link to the Orkney mainland for a number of the archipelago’s islands.

There are so many different shades of green and turquoise on display in Scotland’s coastal places, which is why this is one of my favourite photographs.
